Caterhams descend on Croft to headline British Racing & Sports Car Club weekend

29 Apr 19

The forthcoming May bank holiday weekend (May 4/5th) will see a veritable feast of action provided at Croft mainly by the Caterham marque as the British Racing & Sports Car Club make the first of two visits this season to Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire.

A packed schedule will see no less than 13 races over the weekend with a full entry set to contest the various classes around the full international 2.127-mile circuit which has recently been totally resurfaced.

Leading the way are competitors in the Avon Tyres Caterham Seven 420R Championship which sees East Sussex’s John Byrne in command after the opening couple of rounds. At the previous round at Silverstone, after 29 laps the top ten, including six-times Olympic cycling champion Sir Chris Hoy who is doing selected rounds this season, were covered by less than two seconds which means close racing is guaranteed.

It was a similar story in the Avon Tyres Caterham Seven Roadsport Championship as Will Rossetti and Stuart Bell shared the honours whilst in the Motul Caterham Seven 270R Championship, Justin Heap leads the way after victory last time out.

Lingfield’s Gordon Sawyer heads the Santander Caterham Seven 310R Championship after a double at the previous round whilst in the Teekay Couplings Production GTi Championship, Kent driver Simon Hill aims to extend his lead in the VW Golf Mk5.

With all the above classes having a race each day, the Hyperdrive ST-XR Challenge goes one better with a third race on Sunday for the various Ford saloons which comprises five classes. However, it’s Greg Speight from Altrincham whose Group A Fiesta heads the standings, but he can expect stiff opposition from his rivals, many of whom consider Croft their home track.

Practice gets underway at 9.30 on Saturday with the first of five races commencing at 13.50. Sunday sees Crofttrack action from 12.10 with the remaining eight races starting at 12.45. Adult admission is just £12.00 on both days in advance or £15.00 on the day with accompanied children aged 15 and under admitted FREE on both days. A weekend ticket costs £20 in advance or £27 on the gate and there is also FREE car parking and FREE paddock access.

Meanwhile, with less than two months to go until Croft Circuit hosts the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship over the weekend of June 15/16, advance tickets are now available. Adult advance prices are £12 for Saturday (£15 on gate), £24 for Sunday (£30 on gate) and £35 for a weekend ticket (£39 on gate, subject to availability). Prices for 13 to 15-year-olds are priced at £3 and £5 respectively and all accompanied children aged 12 and under go free.
